What Is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® clear aligners are made of a smooth, medical-grade plastic that is transparent—other people won’t be able to tell you are wearing them! They are removable, but should only be removed when eating, drinking or cleaning. In order to ensure a good outcome, patients must wear their aligners for at least 23 hours a day, or as directed by Dr. Eddleman.

How Does Invisalign® Work?

Your aligners are custom-created from a digital scan of your mouth. Thanks to advanced planning technology, you’ll also be able to see what your smile will look like when your treatment is complete!

Patients swap to a new set of aligners around every two weeks, and each set gradually aligns the teeth. You may feel some soreness when first switching to your new aligners. Over-the-counter pain medication can help, and the discomfort should go away after a day or so. You may also notice a slight shift in your speech, which will disappear as you adjust to wearing them.

How Long Is Treatment?

Most patients will spend anywhere from 9 to 15 months in treatment and go through 18 to 30 sets of aligners during that time. The duration of your treatment depends on several factors, including the severity of your case. Due to advanced 3D planning scanning technology, Dr. Eddleman will be able to tell you how long you’ll spend in treatment from the start!

Who Is A Candidate?

Although Invisalign® can be used for patients of all ages, it is especially popular for teenagers or adults with active lifestyles or who work in professional settings. Clear aligners can solve many common orthodontic issues, including extreme crowding, widely spaced teeth, overbites, underbites and crossbites.

However, it may not be recommended for patients with more complex orthodontic issues. During your consultation, Dr. Eddleman will examine your mouth and review your dental history to determine if Invisalign® is right for you.
